Coolermaster had a test bench model back in 2009 (I think). It was called “CoolerMaster Lab Test Bench”. Despite the certain flaws (never got my hands on it back then) as highlighted by some reviewers such as not having a way to secure the PCIe cards, it was much cheaper than what most test bench was priced back then.
If you read those reviews from respectable sources and see the cons, they can be used as a feedback to make a closed test bench which can be developed into a case that enthusiasts can love, if its made properly.
A lot of people want a closed test bench, with an option to convert it into an open test bench whenever they want. Many people also prefer such layout of the case because its different. Maybe or maybe not that was how Coolermaster rolled out HAF XB, a full fledge case (by the looks it) out of with horizontal motherboard mounting, which happens to double up as a test bench- open/close your wish.
HAF XB, unlike many cases, will make a very good impression on certain end users and enthusiasts when they see this case in front of them. Few people who, in some way, didn’t really like HAF XB had their opinions changed when they saw it. We’ll refer this as the ‘awesomeness’ effect throughout the review when/if its used.
